BTRC Conducts Raid Against Illegal VOIP Operations in Savar

The Enforcement and Inspection Directorate of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), with the assistance of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), conducted a raid on October 23, 2024, targeting unauthorized VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) businesses in the Savar municipal area of Dhaka.

During the operation, authorities seized 9 illegal SIM boxes with 256 ports, 1 CPU, 1 monitor, 9 TP-Link routers, 3 MikroTik routers, 4 smart switches, 1 TP-Link desktop switch, 1 modem, 1 mouse, 4 mobile phones, and 440 SIM cards from various mobile operators.

A case has been filed at Savar Model Police Station against one individual involved in the illegal VOIP business under the provisions of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Act, 2001.

The BTRC continues to conduct regular raids to curb illegal and unauthorized VOIP businesses and the sale and distribution of VOIP equipment. The commission has urged all parties to refrain from engaging in such activities, warning that legal action will be taken against violators.
